Meet the Team: Ariana

This week's featured staff member is one of our school administrators, Ariana Apen. She does so much to help the school run smoothly, and we're thankful to have her as part of the team. We asked Ariana a few questions to help you get to know her.

What is your job at Casa Bernabé and how long have you been working here?

My role is Principal of Preschool and and also Administrative Assistant. I have been working here for six years.

Why did you want to work at CB?

I like to work with kids, and I like to be able to help with people who need it. And I really enjoy administrative work in education.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I like when we finish the school year because this means the kids are finishing a milestone. Everyone is completing their grade level, and we get to see how much they’ve grown.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging thing is when the kids don't bring their documents to come to school at CB. It’s difficult to find their authentic documents and data. Because of this, it’s hard to know what grade we should put them in that best suites their abilities so they won’t fall behind.

Tell us about yourself (your interests, your family, what you like to do your free time, etc.)

I’m married and I have a 20-month-old baby. In my free time, I like to spend time with them. We like to go out to the pool and go for walks. I also like to travel and get to know new places.

Where is your favorite place that you’ve traveled?

I like to travel to the United States. I have only visited two places, Los Angles and Indiana. It was fun to visit my family, and I would love to visit more places.

What do you want people to know about your job?

It’s a job that includes a lot of discipline and order but also a lot of satisfaction. I’m grateful to God for giving me the knowledge and ability to learn the processes and regulations of education in Guatemala.

How can we pray for you?

There are a few kids who have complicated situations. They need this place. They need to come to a place where they are cared for well. It is good for them to be with their biological family as well. They can be happy and peaceful in a school where they are respected, cared for, and loved. We pray that these kids will be able to accept Christ in their hearts.
